Dodgy or little film dialogue

nebbie [Edit] [Delete] 14:35, 3 August '16

Went to the multiplex to watch Bourne last night. Some of it felt like being at work as you watch computer software progress bars crawl towards 100%. Otherwise it is the shallow and artless action-packed blockbuster everyone expects and wants it to be.

Much is made of how few lines Matt Damon has.

The tl:dr conclusion of the Guardian article is that the author doesn't mind the absence of dialogue through fear that it would've been rubbish anyway. Bit snooty, perhaps. But what is included in Bourne as the 'Let's go', 'I want Bourne ... NOW!' cliches; gone are the glory days of the first 'talkies'.

Does dialogue matter? Are scripts worse? Does the emphasis on CGI supplant everything else? What other questions should I ask?
