About the age of 15, we had a friend who didn't really have people round to his house often (because it was about a 45 minute drive). He invited a group of us to stay over and get drunk. He said that his parents were totally cool with it and I think we were even allowed to drink his dad's beer. I didn't go, the rest of them did. At one point the dad walked in and they all got in trouble for getting drunk and drinking his dad's beer. It was kind of baffling because he was really smart and he wasn't desperate for friends.

This all came back to me in the middle of the night.
