Douglas Alexander MP the Secretary of State for Transport is expected to make an announcement this morning giving the go ahead for the expansion of the Metrolink network.

Today's announcement is expected to allocate the remainder of the £520 million ( approx £260 million ) and together with a contribution of approx £300 million from the ten local authorities (AGMA) this gives a total package of £820million.

This means that a start can be made on all 3 lines in 2008.
