DiS FREE Marquee Xmas bash! This Monday
DiS FREE Marquee Xmas bash! This Monday
gdobson by Gareth Dobson December 15th, 2004
Merry Christmas readers. We’re having a celebratory gig/party thing this MONDAY and we really want you to come along and dance, chat and listen.

As stated some months ago, we wanna make access to new music as easy to all as possible. And after the success of our Free Entry 4th Birthday Party, the good folks at Plum Promotions are now having us back once a month, as part of their series of Free Monday Night Breakthrough gigs. What this means is that you can come see the same level of great new bands on their way to big things, ages before anyone else, and some of the most interesting creative gunslingers, some signed to great indie labels, some unsigned, all for absolutely nothing, once a month...

Our Christmas bash at the Barfly last year featured the likes of bloc party and Youth Movie Soundtrack Strategies, and we're confident of repeating trick in terms of quality at least...

Drowned in Sound presents…

TEAM
Who are TEAM? TEAM f@cking ROCK. Signed to versatile and forward looking label heroes Captains of Industry, TEAM offer glimpses of post-rock, punk rock and prog-rock…but this is far too difficult, too complex and heart-felt to categorise with words alone. Reviews have compared them to the likes of Queens Of The Stoneage, Fugazi, Mogwai, Nirvana and Lift to Experience. We said: ‘the ‘Penalyn’ lp’ is special… and ‘Myopia’ is possibly the greatest rock song to have been detuned this year…’
Sample Track: ’Myopia’

HOST
Host get off at the stop between early Adam and the Ants and XTC. Sweet melodies undulate on waves of quirky riffs and infectious, rhythmic bass lines. Shouts and screams are tempered by strange synths, while the lead singing duties are divided between guitarist and Billy Corgan look-a-like bassist. Drums scatter machine-gun beats at the three-part harmonies. Their excellent ‘Minimum Listening Guarantee’’ LP was released earlier this year . We said: " This band belong in a very short list of completely original and inspiring English bands. The overall feel is one of frantic joy, like a hyperactive child with chronic ADD who forgot to take his Ritalin and has just eaten 50 red Skittles."
music: 'coming soon, check here'

C-JAGS
Unsigned for not much longer, C-Jags have been tearing up a storm through London in the past 12 months, mainly to run away from the A&R men chasing them like wild-eyed dogs following a t-bone. Excellent jerky power pop as declared by that there Time Out, and you know what? They’re right.
Sample Tracks: Tambourine Song
