Electric Picnic 2010: the DIS preview
Electric Picnic 2010: the DIS preview
gideon_ by Gideon Brody September 1st, 2010

On the face of it, staging a festival in Ireland, in September, just as we approach autumn/say goodbye to summer, is well... pretty baffling. Only the most optimistic individuals will be travelling to the verdant fields of County Laois, Benicassim-light. But just as the festival machine begins to wind down for another year, there will be a happy 30,000 or so more than willing to rouse themselves for one final summer jaunt. My festival survival tip: pack a few Arctic storm proof fleeces and that slightly embarrassing one-purpose-only cagoule that still has brown substance (let's just say mud) from last year's fest splattered across it and you'll be right as.. ah.

The good news for those packing waterproofs like camels pack water is that 2010's lineup is a treat for battered eardrums. With Electric Picnic's usual bias towards, err, ELECTRONIC music, the organisers have tempted some of the year's more interesting electro hype-bands to Stradbally Hall, as well as a collection of still-interesting but possibly less hyped indie and folk acts. And while the headliners were the subject of long-ago hype talk, they will, at the very least, provide some happy and presumably spectacular trips down Memory Lane.

Here are three day-by-day Spotify playlists, including the acts you should really haul your festive ass to this weekend:
