Calories' Top 5 Birmingham Bands
Calories' Top 5 Birmingham Bands
eurydice by Cate Blanche September 24th, 2010

We asked Birmingham-based Calories to put together a playlist of their top five favourite bands to come out of beautiful Brum...

Napalm Death- Nazi Punks Fuck Off

Napalm Death are one of my favourite ever bands from Birmingham. I've never heard them but I like heavy shit and the singer is an Aston Villa fan. Plus I think they invented grindcore, not to be confused with Grime Core, another Birmingham subculture which I have no knowledge of.

Black Sabbath- War Pigs

Not that fond of Ozzy Osborne but great name for a band. A lot like Napalm Death which I forgot to mention. They did a song called 'Paranoid' which was on a computer game called Rock & Roll Racing which I played when I was younger. Pete was in a band with Tony Iommi's daughter who was also called Tony Iommi.

UB40- Red Red Wine

I don't like reggae. Do like red wine though.

Judas Priest - Breaking The Law

Contrary to popular opinion there is no priest in Judas Priest. What they lack in religious leaders they make up for in hair and positive metal attitude (PMA). Oh. The singer's bald. Shame.

Slade - Coz I Luv You

I like Christmas, do you? They do. And also they were way ahead of their time just look at the text lingo in the title... Did they even have mobile phones then?? Answers on a toastcard...

Take a listen to their playlist on good ole ye Spotify

Calories release their second album Basic Nature this week on Tough Love Records.
