CARETAKER
EPs and mini albums behind them on Badmusic and Fierce Panda, Caretaker rocked so much at their last gig that they demanded a return to London as soon as possible and thus here they are. They do that angular mathy rock thing but we can hear definite pop sensibility in there too. They should be familiar to you already so I'll shurrup now.
ONSTAGE: 10.30pm
DUSTBALL
Another band who've been around for a while but took a break then came back stronger with a different lineup and different songs. Many who've seen them live recently will tell you they are one of the best live bands in the country, and that's not hype that is The Truth. They were supposed to end their 3-month Windmill residency last month while everybody else was swanning about in muddy fields in Reading and Leeds but, ha ha, we made them come back for an extra encore so you can see what you missed.
ONSTAGE: 9.45pm
MAVIS
In case you've been too caught up in the garage rock and poodle rock phenomenon that is the year 2002, you may not have noticed that this week's thing is now The Sunderland Invasion, and Mavis are one of those bands at the forefront of it all. Their debut indie-released album 'The Mavis Crisis' has been picking up rave reviews and airplay wherever it lands, including 4 Ks in 'Kerrang!' mag. They combine indiepop and country punk in a blender and have a song with the rather fine title of 'Class War On The Dance Floor'. "Your new favourite band."
ONSTAGE: 9.00pm
* TUBE STRIKE *
Yes, it's time for me to swear very loudly again - *^&"%$ - because please note there is a TUBE STRIKE this day. Just our luck. And yours.
