thisGIRL to open a gig at the Dublin Castle you say? Didn’t they headline a jam-packed Garage only a month ago you ask? Well, yes and yes. But the deal is this; the band are all set to go into the studio to record their sophomore album and their first for a big ol’ major label and they’ve got some new tunes to try out. And instead of saving them for Earl’s Court or something, they wanna do it in a nice sweaty environment where they can see the fear/adulation/amazement (delete as applicable) in the whites of your eyes. And thanks to a Bush-Blair like ‘special relationship’ with aforementioned record label / independent website, they’ve agreed to do it at our gaff. Top Hole.
So, it appears that next week’s gig has escalated from ‘top priority’ to ‘unmissable’. Just to recount, thisGIRL will be joining Dive Dive (fresh from winning the Reader’s Choice vote to support our very own Koreans) Cameran (more ‘buzz’ than you can shake a bloody great beehive at) and Ludes (NME ticking hypebomb set to explode).
Since the advent of these DiS/Panda love-ins in January of this year (2003, for archive readers), the monthly hoo-ha has seen the likes of Razorlight (large deal with Mercury), Boxer Rebellion (Poptones agreement) and Youth Movie Soundtrack Strategies (indie mini-album contract) broken to the A ummm R masses with the remorseless execution of a contract killer.
thisGIRL hit the stage at 8.15 on Tuesday, 29 July at the Dublin Castle.
Self aggrandising broadcast over.
