But this month the pendulum of ROCK swings the other way and we bring you an evening of more dance-worthy songsmiths, presented in association with the awesome Play Dead fanzine. And seeing as England are playing Portugal on THURSDAY you now have no excuse. We expect to see you in extra jubilant spirits after we've thrashed the pint-sized pansies.
So. Playing for YOU this month are:
Feverdream
This three-piece [two guys / one gal) will have travelled all the way from Rotterdam for the None More Rock party spectacular and have been crafting their luscious guitar-strewn indie-punk for nigh on four years. They have quite simply the most addictive sing-a-long choruses we have EVER heard come out of Holland, which means that if you’re not up on the dance floor and swinging your hips to their sweet pop-a-licious tunes then you simply must be dead. Or at least comotose.
Paper Cuts
With a reputation as one of the loudest and most energetic live bands around Paper Cuts are a truly exciting proposition and, in the words of DiS Scribe Tom Edwards "a finger in the eye of mainstream mediocrity and, thus, are absolute genius!". Similarly to vocalist Ross Cummins previous band Symposium Paper Cuts play pop songs fast, loud and with the aid of huge head-crunching distortion, reminiscent of The Buzzcocks meeting Moving Units by way of Refused and ATD-I. No, seriously they're that good!
Census
Arising from the ashes of acclaimed emo-hardcore veterans Otherwise Census are a band taking things in a whole new direction. With the aid of ex-Mine vocalist Gemma and technical ex-ComaKai drum student Steve these guys create an accessible hybrid of sounds that re-evaluates the way you view the 'hardcore' genre.
And of course there'll be the usual erratic DJ spots from resident DiS DJs Chris and Mike. Mike informs me there'll be a mix of toe-tapping beats and butt-busting sludge. Whatever that means. Good stuff no doubt. And maybe some country and western while I'm at the bar and unable to smack him round the face really hard.
