They've been pissing about with this for ages but Team Sleep will actually release their eponymous debut on May 10 via Madge's record label, Maverick. I heard pirate bootleg stuff about 3 years ago when Moreno, his mate Todd Wilkenson on guitars, some chaps Rick Verrett on bass and drummer Zach Hill team-ed up with DJ Crook to play a gig at the Cactus Club in California. Natalie Portman was there. I wonder if she tried touching her toes that night?
It sounded chilled out but also a bit crazy mashed up to me and Chino himself says it's "moody" and "beat-driven". Skill! There's a song on it inspired by that morbid, tale-teller poet man Edgar Allen Poe if you want an example of moody and they've beefed up some instrumental stuff with Mary Timony's voice. Describe the vocal style? Dry... laconic... err, moody... you get the picture.
Deftones this ain't kidz. Sorry. Some collaborations were said to have been done or suggested with Mike Patton, the other 'Tones and My Vitriol but they do not surface here, sadly. Team Sleep are probably touring America in the late Spring but nothing is confirmed so don't expect anything crazy to turn up anywhere round here. Deftones have recorded their new album with Bob Ezrin but are just waiting for Chino to stop poncing around with his new friends.
DiS-cuss: Is this actually gonna be any good? I mean, really? Is Natalie Portman well fit? How fit? Is she in the new Star Wars film? Where will the new Star Wars film be shown at? The one where the geeks are queuing up at already, or the other one? She does look ace when touching her toes, though.
