DiS is Five: More gigs, more fun, new logo!
sean by Sean Adams October 7th, 2005
They said it might never happen.
Amongst a slurry of dot-goners and pretenders, DrownedinSound.com is 5 and is now stronger, smarter and generally (we think) better than ever. The exciting thing is, I know we can do better and do even more to support the music we love and share it with you and for you to interact with 82,000 other readers.

In a week's time, Friday 14th October, we’re re-launching with a revamped look and a whole new set of tricks.

To celebrate 5 years and to set the new site sail on its virgin voyage, we’re throwing two parties in London (sorry, but it’s where we live!).

Everyone is invited to the Camden Barfly for the 14th - even Justin Hawkins, we’ve got SPECIAL GUEST headliners and the capital's most fun live band LES INCOMPÉTENTS plus DJ sets from 10-3am from members of The Cooper Temple Clause, Komakino, Olly from White Heat/Snow White and many a drunk member of DiS staff playing some of the finest music from the last 5 years; expect to hear everything from Beck to ...Trail of Dead to Clinic to Roots Manuva to Best Fwends. Get a pound off entry to our party at the Barfly on Friday if you come dressed as a pirate. More info and advance tickets are available online by clicking here.

We’re also throwing a FREE hangover matinee party @ Notting Hill Arts Club the day after, with live music from: KOMAKINO, Lucida Console and Up-C Down-C Left-C Right-C ABC + START.

Without wanting to sound smug, we’ve reached a half-a-decade milestone and we’re still doing what we set out to do, which if you didn’t know by now, is to create an arena where new music is championed alongside the innovative icons of the day and some occasional pop fun. In doing this, letting all the people - you lovely people - who love, live and breathe music discuss the things that matter, with like-minds from across the globe.

Thank you for sticking with us through it all, spreading the word about our site and most importantly for trusting us and getting out there, discovering some great new music when no-one else really cared. Thank you to all of our staff who've slaved over the site, providing you all with informed passionate writing and the magic which goes on behind the scenes.

I'd like to say a special thank you to Matthew Willson without whom all the clever geniusness that makes the site work wouldn't be possible and new editor Colin Roberts whose commitment and enthusiasm has taken the reigns of my baby and is driving the site towards better things.

Over the next few weeks we'll have some highlights from the past five years of content on the site and charts (woo! lists!) of the records we've fallen in love with over and over again.

Here's to many more!

...oh, and this is the new logo by the way!
