Support the 'Underdog': Manics offer free download
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver February 26th, 2007

They're Welsh! They're old! Er than me!

Manic Street Preachers - one of those bands that seems to have been around forever, and that you remember liking a while ago, but you're not really sure why... you think it had something to do with white liberal America, but perhaps it had more to do with wearing ski masks - are to release a new song as a free download on March 19.

'Underdogs' is the first single to be taken from the forthcoming Send Away The Tigers LP; it'll be available from the Manic's website as a kind of 'thank you' to the fans that have stood by the band through their recent period of, well, critical indifference.

Says the band's Nicky Wire of the song:

"All out punk metal - Alice Cooper - Stooges guitar outro. Could have been on Generation Terrorists. A celebration of the unique, a post 'Everything Must Go' address to the fans 10 years after the first time we did it. In a Britain dominated by generic, one diametrical multi branding, let us embrace the difference - the downtrodden - the losers and the opposition. Let us fall in love with individuality again."

Okaaaay. The band's aforementioned new LP is released on May 7 through Columbia.
