DiS might as well just play that headline straight. Alt-post-punk-rock legends Sonic Youth are to release an album through ubiquitous coffeeshop Starbucks.
Thurston Moore disclosed news of the record - a compilation of tracks chosen by famous creatives - in an interview with Pitchfork.
Moore?
"So all these people, from Jeff Tweedy to Beck to Marc Jacobs to Portia de Rossi to Michelle Williams, they all chose their favorite songs and wrote a little thing about it."
"So it's a compilation record of artists choosing songs of Sonic Youth. There's going to be one exclusive song of ours that we'll record..."
Mr Moore went on to laugh at suggestions the record would be "up at the counter along with the biscotti and the disc of Elton John's favorite [sic] Christmas songs" before claiming that "Starbucks is the new record store, right?".
