Franz Ferdinand have been talking, mainly in an uninteresting way it has to be said, about their their third album, slated for release in spring next year.
According to guitarist Paul Thomson, the follow-up to 2005's You Could Have It So Much Better will feature a ‘synth-led’ sound, as showcased by a recent low-key gig in Glasgow.
Thomson said the new songs were "synth-led, we've gone crazy buying old synths... We played Nashville recently and all the synths short circuited in the heat, we had to play a greatest hits set instead. But everybody was still smiling".
He added underwhelmingly: "We've been recording demos rehearsing, writing. It's going well, it was good to have breather and not impose deadlines on ourselves...the songs are evolving quite nicely."
The band have contributed an unusually plaintive new song, 'Hallam Foe Dandelion Blow', for the soundtrack to forthcoming Britflick Hallam Foe. The film, which has got Billy Elliot in it and looks dead good, will be released August 16, according to BBC6 Music.
