MOBO Awards: wins for West, Westwood and Winehouse
ssssamuel by zzzzzz zzzzzz September 20th, 2007

Having pulled out from the event earlier in the week, 50 Cent again lost out to Kayne West at last night's MOBOs. West made off with a couple of gongs for Best Hip Hop and Best Video for Daft Punk-pilfering 'Stronger'. The evening, presented by Jamelia and Shaggy (cleverly monikered 'Jaggy'), saw a reasonably impressive array of victors, from Dizzee Rascal to Rihanna, mask the poor nominees.

Highlights:
- A flaky performance of 'Tears Dry On Their Own' from Amy Winehouse.
- Simon Webbe, sporting a finely-tailored Mohican and coloured beard combo, deciding to perform an impromptu mid-announcement, two-minute rap detailing his childhood destitution.
- Decima Francis, from Boyhood to Manhood, silencing the crowd with an outburst. "I'm going to have a go at the musicians now. You have not got the right to call me a 'ho' and a 'bitch'. How dare you? Get a dictionary and use the language. Don't call us names."
- Every pirate radio deejay across the UK standing to boo "the most influential figure in rap"(Daily Mail, 2006), Tim Westwood (pictured, left), on accepting Best DJ.

So, the winners...

Best UK Female - Amy Winehouse
Best UK Male - Dizzee Rascal
Best International Act - Rihanna
Best Song - Ne-Yo: 'Because of You'
Best UK Newcomer - N Dubz
Best Video - Kanye West: 'Stronger'
Best Hip-Hop - Kanye West
Best R&B - Ne-Yo
Best Reggae - Sean Kingston
Best Gospel - G-Force
Best DJ - Tim Westwood
Best Jazz - Soweto Kinch
