Vampire Weekend have been forced to cancel tonight’s instore at Rough Trade East after drummer Chris Thompson (pictured) was hospitalised after being hit by a car last night.

The band were due to play at the store in London’s Brick Lane after cancelling the last two dates of the UK tour this week due to illness.

However, Thompson's involvement in the hit'n'run left him in hospital and means that the band will now fly back to the US without playing any further shows in the UK.

“Due to the events of the last 48 hours Vampire Weekend are sad to announce they are unable to play the Rough Trade instore tonight,” read a press statement. “Don’t worry, everyone's on the mend. Thanks for all your support.”

Meanwhile, Rough Trade remarked that they were "relieved" Thompson is OK, and that they look forward to welcoming the band back later in the year.

The band’s last couple of weeks have been dogged by misfortune, having to cancel those aforementioned gigs in Glasgow and Manchester as well as having their recent performance at the ULU in London interrupted by a false fire alarm.

They will, however, be back in the Kingdom this May for a series of live shows, (click here for details), as well as playing the Great Escape.

The band wish to clarify that it was keyboardist Rostram Batmanglij whose illness put paid to the Manchester and Glasgow shows and not Thompson, who was out partying last night at the NME Awards.
