Watch: Blood Red Shoes 'In Time to Voices'
sean by Sean Adams September 5th, 2012

The title track to the Brighton based duos third album gets the sort of video that you forgot you used to see on Mtv(2).

Visually, 'In Time to Voices' inhabits the same dark alleys as the track, but all the while the videos core couldn't be closer to this band's heart. The riot-grrrl influences might be burrowed a little deeper as Blood Red Shoes continue to define their own sound (a sort of modern mutant of grunge, splashed with Brit-rock anthemics and giddy skate-punk-meets-hardcore rhythms, which at times drift away to a land where Is This Desire? was bigger than Nevermind), but as an inspirational beacon of yes-ladies-you-can-rock-peoples-faces-off empowerment (in music or otherwise), few come close to Laura-Mary. Look beyond the teeny-bit tongue in cheek Foo Fighters on crack video, and you'll find the message is one of a different kind of girl power; ingenuity and passion is bigger and better than alpha-male protein-shake strength. 'In Time to Voices' is a refreshing reminder of how great music videos used to be.

---

We asked Laura-Mary about the video and she said:

"This is one of our favorite videos. It doesn't have any serious meaning, it's just a bit of tongue and cheek, which we felt we had not seen in a video for a long while.

It was really fun to make and the man I wrestled is currently number 11 in the UK for body building and is going for the title of number 2. He was really cool and embraced the whole idea of the video. The video was made by Craig Murray who was a friend from the punk scene and has made some really beautiful videos..

We wanted a simple idea that was striking and maybe a bit weird or strange...there is no point making a video that people just like. wheres the fun in that? We loved the simplicity of the video concept and knew we could trust him with the idea. It turned out far better than we could have hoped for..."

Blood Red Shoes embark on a short US tour this month, before returning to the UK & Europe to tour with Gaslight Anthem. Plus they have plenty more of their own shows coming up, which finish up with the band headlining Shepherd's Bush Empire in January. For dates and tickets visit: bloodredshoes.co.uk/live.
