Mclusky do DiS Xmas party
shadyadie by [redacted] December 6th, 2002
The 'secret' band playing our Xmas party on Sun 8 Dec @ Brixton Windmill is....

*drum roll*

*extended drum roll*

... Mclusky!

(obviously that drum roll was unnecessary as their name is in the news headline, but I thought I'd add it for dramatic effect)

This will be the Cardiff 3-piece's first gig at the tiny venue, which is all rather exciting. They'll be onstage around 8pm. Full line-up is below.

Following that, Mclusky headline the Garage in Highbury, London, on Dec 14th.

(apologies about the London-ness of this story)

Their debut album, 'My Pain And Sadness Is More Sad And Painful Than Yours', is reissued by Too Pure in Jan 2003.

Download their single, 'To Hell With Good Intentions', here.

Line-up for the gig:

THE PRIMMS
More new emotional rock things starting to pick up a fair bit of interest with their Muse/Radiohead/Halo-like (delete as preferred) stylings.
ONSTAGE 5.00pm

SMOTHER
Another young and intense threesome playing fired-up soulpunk or summat like that, with rather ace single released on Nathan McGoth's 'uglyman' label.
ONSTAGE 6.00pm

ENGERICA
Young and intense threesome rock things who we've championed plenty with gigs at the Barfly, In The City, and in fact our first ever gig at this venue all those months ago. They will release their new single 'Trick or Treat' on Island Records new imprint 'Fall Out Records' in Jan, followed by a track on a Fierce Panda eee pee.
ONSTAGE 7.00pm

MCLUSKY
Stepping in to help us party in style in our 'special guest' slot (oo-er), which is good considering 'Mclusky Do Dallas' is the best album released in 2002 by quite a long mile (if you disagree then I will be prepared to argue this fact on the night but you will not win).
ONSTAGE 8.00pm

I OWN KINGS
I believe this will be gig no. 9 or 10 for London's I.O.K., who like to blend phat keyboards with spikey riffs and big choruses, adding plenty of showbiz posing. I've been assured their new songs are "really fucking brilliant" or words to that effect. Hooray.
ONSTAGE 9.00pm

FONDA 500
Fantastic popsters from Hull, a definite highlight of this year's Truck Festival, easily one of the best live bands in the country, now releasing stuff on - yes - Truck Records. The only band on Truck not to have played the Windmill (until this gig, obviously).
ONSTAGE 10.00pm

It's only £3 to get in and has a free BBQ running 5-7pm. Get there early or miss-out as it's pretty safe to say this will be a busy 'un.

Map to the venue is here.
