The Who: New LP
afuture1 by Andrew Future July 9th, 2003
The Who’s Pete Townsend has revealed that the band are to make one final album.

"We'll probably go into the studio later this year," he told Billboard. Talking about vocalist Roger Daltrey, he added, "he seems to be determined to get me back into a studio and to push me to making what he would call a Who album with him and I'm in no mood really to turn away from his friendship. He's been such a fantastic support to me in my recent troubles."

Despite being found NOT GUILTY of downloading any child porn (Townsend accessed a site as part of research for his ongoing campaign and forthcoming autobiography) he was still put on the sex-offenders register for a limited time. "I have been rapped on the knuckles and I don't want to appear like I don't take this thing seriously. There is a measure of the kind of rock'n'roll arrogance that I still carry in my dotage that made me think I'd have no trouble with it. I really thought of myself as a professional researcher who worked to help victims."

With the police resources wasted on this case, many questioned how many real victims could have been helped. This morning, the London Metro reports a 14 year old viciously murdered in a sexually motivated assault.

The Who legend’s ordeal comes to an end after Massive Attack frontman Robert Del Naja was also cleared of any wrong doing after being falsely accused by police of downloading indecent images. ‘3D’ was a staunch anti-war campaigner, and the timing of his arrest gave rise to countless conspiracy theories about the authorities wanting 'to silence him' or at least 'pay him back' for leading public protests.

When the police realised they could not make any child porn allegations stick, they charged him for possession of coke found at his home despite this not being in any way connected to the original inquiry.

DiScuss: Were police right to divulge these people's names when nothing had been proved, thus unjustly tarnishing the reputations of generational figureheads? Should The Who score the soundtrack for the remake of Fiddler On The Roof?
