Rapper 50 Cent has waltzed away with another award, following his recent successes at the MOBOs and MTV awards, only this time he was recognised for his contributions to, wait for it... ringtones.
I kid you not; 50 won the gong for 'Ringtone Of The Year' at the annual conference of the Cellular Telecommunication & Internet Association in Las Vegas yesterday (22nd October). His track 'In Da Club' was downloaded a whopping 500,000 times, a figure that shows exactly how important the ringtone market has become in relation to the pop charts. The ringtone industry is currently estimated to be worth some $5 billion in Japan and Europe alone. 'In Da Club' is the most downloaded track in the US to date.
