My Moon My Man

Label: Polydor Release Date: 07/05/2007

23706
Cody_Jeff by Cody Jefferson May 8th, 2007

Three minutes of a whole lot of not very much, ‘My Moon My Man’ tells the average non-acolyte listener very little about Leslie Feist’s latest long-player, the already acclaimed The Reminder.

A bouncing bass line and typically breathy vocals guide the song through its allotted time, with little instrumentation intruding upon this most-basic of structures; this is a song that doesn’t really go anywhere, but simply exists for its desired duration before fizzling out and leaving all the impression of clean trainer on set concrete. That’s an i.e. not very much, right there.

Co-written by Gonzales, there’s an on-paper hope that ‘My Moon My Man’ will be a sleazy, schizoid indie-buzz-dance stomper, all introspective confessionals forced to the forefront against their will and set to a burned-into-yr-brain backdrop that’s straight out of leftfield via the most successful pop factories Scandinavia has to offer. Sadly, though, said dream song doesn’t materialise; ‘My Moon My Man’ is just a plinky-plonk-plink pop song that’s as memorable as last Monday’s mid-morning tea break.

It _is_, but there’s really not all that much reason for it to be.
