It looks as though commercial aspiration has cost DeRose his artistic credentials. »

When Damien DeRose turned eighteen, he dropped out of school, packed up his guitar, and bought a sailboat in California with a friend. The plan was to sail down the coast and let the wind dictate the pace. However, life took a different course and while the ship may not have left the harbour, DeRose found himself on a new journey, writing and travelling across the US and Europe. A captivating home-recorded debut was released - "Fear Not Distant Lover", a collection of delicately lo-fi folk/pop songs, and Peasant became the moniker.
In 2008, Peasant signed with Paper Garden Records, released his first studio album entitled, "On The Ground”, had many US shows feature his songs and toured the world sharing the stage with Cursive, Delta Spirit and Deer Tick playing at South By Southwest and the Montreal Pop Fest. Released in the UK and Ireland in 2009, the album reaped rich praise.
