Hot Club de Paris - The Rise And Inevitable Fall Of The High School Suicide Cluster Band

Review by David Pott-Negrine

Gone is the fixation on Chicago based indie rock, the penchant for math rock. Instead Hot Club have gone for a much more classic rock feel.»

hot club de paris marked their return with a brand-new ep 'with days like this as cheap as chewing gum, why would anyone want to work?' in february. as promised, here is the second ep from their prolific stint of going back to basics, concentrating on writing, recording and self-producing a plethora of simply ace diy british punk pop. 'the rise and inevitable fall of the high school suicide cluster band' captures the hot club's admiration of independent experimental american indie rock and the band's undying love of classic british rock. referencing bands such as the who, early queen and led zeppelin as well as delivering the usual nods towards joan of arc, the minutemen and pavement, 'the rise and inevitable fall of the high school suicide cluster band ep' charts an exciting development in the band's sound. lead single 'free the pterodactyl 3' is a slow and wistful jam about singer and baritone guitarist paul rafferty's scrape with the law whilst attempting the liberation of a 3 metre fibreglass pterodactyl from a derelict fun fair with a couple of friends. like its predecessor, the ep is available as a super-limited hand-numbered, self artworked 10" vinyl. unlike its predecessor it has the indisputable pleasure of being adorned with the monumental catalogue number of moshi100. this is history, kids.
