it took just one listen to fall in love with this delicate and fragile album - it's the perfect mix of 60's french female pop and mazzy star. every play reveals yet more depth and beauty. cours lapin's unusual combination of words, tones and accents leads us into a theatrical underworld consisting of french adventure shaped by the old 'chanson' tradition. the moods of the album move from the dark and sensual to the naive and encouraging and are reminiscent of an atmosphere only found in tim burton and david lynch films; one minute you are initiated in the rites and mysterious intrigues surrounding a murder scene in the 50s, and in the next you're following strange creatures on strings in a 20th century puppet theater. the music is beautiful and gloomy with catchy melodies. the acoustic instruments are supplemented with few underplayed electronic elements, which creates an intense atmosphere around louise alenius' fragile and melancholy voice and lyrics. where the songs 'mes larmes secrets' (my secret tears) and '1,2,3' are delivered with a classic innocence, 'cache-cache' (hide and seek) and 'cours lapin' (bunny run) mix jazzy nightclub sounds with a couple of old-school surf-riffs.
