after signing to fat possum / weird world aka domino earlier this year, smith westerns recorded new material over the summer with producer chris coady (yeah yeah yeahs, tv on the radio, beach house etc). where 'smith westerns' is unmistakably lo-fi, 'dye it blonde' is much cleaner and doesn't sound as if it were recorded in someone's garage. yet it doesn't lose that light, catchy vibe that drew you into their music to begin with. it's a timeless pop album that recalls oasis, suede, teenage fanclub - as well the t rex and david bowie thing.
