3 years after jape took the irish album of the year award at the choice music prize they are back with their career defining 4th studio album 'ocean of frequency'. with influences ranging from steve mcqueen era prefab sprout to 'mount eerie' era microphones and caribou to brian eno (circa 'here comes the warm jets'), 'ocean of frequency' cements jape's reputation as one of the most highly regarded irish bands of the last decade. from the nostalgic, euphoric anthem of 'the oldest mind' to the infectious pop of 'you make the love', 'scorpio' and 'please don't turn the record off', jape's ability to change direction on each album is testament to the craftsmanship of the songwriting. delicate permeations such as 'borrowed time with peace', 'an hallucination' and 'its shadow won't make noise', are intertwined with the defiant punctuations of 'internal machine' and 'too many people', all leading towards the game-changing title track, 'ocean of frequency'.
the first album to be released on music/is/for/losers, 'ocean of frequency' is the finest collection of twisted pop songs you're likely to encounter this side of the 80s.
