From the moment we first heard Savages' debut double A side 7" we knew we were listening to something special. With sonic structures reminiscent of Siouxsie and The Banshees and the Slits, an aural atmosphere not dissimilar to that of a warzone, and a band made up of some seriously skilled musicians, it was impossible not to fall head over heels for these four horsewomen of the apocalypse, announcing the second coming of punk rock. What strikes immediately is how powerful they are, both on record and in their live show. A haunting Bauhaus-ian aesthetic on stage leaves you trembling with delight in their doomish shadow. It's the band every girl wishes she could be in, the talent every half-arsed post-punk outfit wish they posessed. Kneel before them, for they have cometh, let the second new wave cleanse you of your cynism - punk sure as hell ain't dead!
