Tunng - Turbines

Review by Amanda Farah

Less the sound of a band losing their edge and more the sound of them finding their zen.»

Rough Trade Amazon UK

A warm, sophisticated record, 'Turbines' is as moving and addictive as it is impossible to pin down, its eclectic span of instruments and ideas as unique a sound as you're likely to discover this year, or any year for that matter. Dig deep into the sprawling wash of vintage synths, sci-fi noises and glowering finger-picked guitar melodies and you'll see these characters come to life, from So Far From Here's spirited travellers ("the mountains passed, they disappeared to the black...") to the shamanic campfire crazies of Embers. It's an album rich in colour and emotion, from the geyser-like organ eruptions of By This to the trip-hop grooves and thunderous timpani of Trip Trap and Heavy Rock Warning.
