Subsistence Theory are an Aberdeen-based band playing charged-up rock, seething with angst and subsiding on a rickety backline reminiscent of the late, great Stony Sleep, albeit much, much louder.

These fuzzed-up guitars are lead by vocalist/guitarist Michael McClenan, who really has got a bee in his bonnet about something, but then again with music like this you can’t envisage passionate words of love for his dear old Gran. *‘New Form of Lowlife’ *rolls on an ongoing bassline which is surpassed by McClenan’s distorted anger and serrated guitars sawing through the mix. As you can tell, these guys make one heck of a racket, kicking up a fierce hybrid of Pixies, Fugazi & Sonic Youth.

Overall, this is a demo displaying some incredible songwriting that’s carried off well by McClenan’s original vocal style. I imagine they’re a blast live so I recommend any promoters reading this to get in contact & help them break out of Aberdeen / Scotland.
