Owsley Sunshine – experimental indie stuff from Lincoln. First thoughts? Gomez. Of course OS don’t have Ben Otterwell, and they don’t have quite the same depth and vibrancy to their tracks that years of music making has lent our friends with the Liquid Skin.
Still, let’s not get too carried away with the Gomez analogy. Fact is Owsley Sunshine produce the kind of spirited psychedelic sing-a-longs that while away festival nights perfectly. Music for campfire lit evenings of bongo, acoustic guitar and vocal celebration. Nights that smell of toasted marshmallows, taste of strawberry rolling paper and feel like burning noses and damp bottoms.
Captured on record, the subtle blend of uplifting basslines, infectious chanted chorus’ and tripping keyboard samples work to intensely elevating effect. And with live 'In-House Special' stuck on the end to pad it all out, something tells me that this lot might just be well worth the trip to your local pub venue for.
