Rebus

Broadmoor Music Society EP

Label: Release Date: 08/09/2003

Andy by Andrew Farley September 11th, 2003

For a couple of years young upstarts Rebus have been playing live and loud in small venues around the south. The self-financed release of their third EP sees the band in energetic and assured mood. Lead track 'Style' is fast and frenzied and wouldn’t sound altogether out place on Radio 4’s Gotham album. Second song 'My Acute Pain' has a killer bassline and is a more subdued affair, but the passionate vocals differentiate it from just another punk/rock indie track.

There’s a definite Clash influence lying amongst the pounding drums and guitar riffs that run throughout the EP and there is enough here to convince me that something really promising is happening. The EP closes with the storming and typically cocky 'Adventures in Taxi'. "You talk to much/You’re losing touch/But I don’t really give a fuck", Alex sings in the chorus.

With this kind of attitude and sound, there’s no reason to suggest that Rebus aren’t moving in the right direction.
