This Derbyshire four-piece give us the classic demo mix: raw fast track (intention: energy and attitiude), slower pretty track (intention: songwriting prowess), and a lingering epic to finish (intention: three tracks are usually needed). Luckily in this case all of the songs that make up A Short Demonstration are rather good. Their calling card Modern Man’s Son is as full of punk-grime and spite as She’s Inside Out is of crystal clear melodic changes and catchy chorus hooks. Elements of The Ordinary Boys are definitely in there as are the Telecaster stabs of The Cribs. Having already recorded this offering on equipment older than the sun at the infamous Toerag studios and supported the likes of Delays and Snow Patrol, The Strollers seem to picking up the pace very well indeed. On this evidence the band seem potent, determined and firing on all cylinders. More please.
