Third release from Brave Captain aka Mr Martin Carr… and Derrero.

The kid’s done good… four more (practically) perfect pop songs reminiscent of his childhood heroes John Lennon and Brian Wilson.

The ‘Captain starts with ‘Better Living Through Reckless Experimentation’ a sing-along-“ooh la la la”-pop song, and further proof if you need it, that Mr Carr is quickly gaining ground on the likes of Evan Dando, Ben Lee and Gruff Rhys in the King of Pop title. ‘The Canton Hotel (These Questions Are Very Easy)’ is an lil’ acoustic number, again perfect for the days like today, when the sun is shining, the birds (and me) are singing, the bees are buzzing, and my cat is sunbathing (why am I indoors reviewing this?). Brave Captain ruins the mood and turns into Melancholy Captain on ‘Me And You Glue’, I’m surprised: “What am I doing? Where am I going? I can’t tell what is real, its how I feel. I wish I had the glue to put us back together” hasn’t caused a mass outbreak of wrist slitting amongst the bedwetting indie kids. Though I have a sneaky suspicion that the reason why there haven’t been reports of Indie guys ‘n’ gals doing so, is coz of ‘Stronger’ a long meandering psychedelic song, which would sounds like it could have been on Super Furries’ ‘Guerrilla’, in my opinion the perfect summer album… oh and scientifically proven to be even better than Prozac. Can I have some more please? Brave Captain that is!
