Mum And Dad

Black Sabbath limited 7"

Label: Twisted Nerve Release Date: 16/07/2001

DiSvsMatt by Mat Hocking July 20th, 2001

Although I’ve read a lot of interesting reviews regarding Mum & Dad I feel ashamed to have not actually heard them before this. This is a rare limited edition 7” in a fetching mirrored sleeve with only 500 copies available only through the TN website. Although probably not the best introduction to M&D this does offer an insight into the warped minds of Clair & co. as they totally electrify Black Sabbath’s ‘Black Sabbath’ with eerie electronica and cracklingly distorted guitar drones. Clair’s sultry devilishness seeps out of the mix with subtle allurement, seeming that little bit more appealing than Ozzy’s high-pitched warble.

Flip the disc and you’ll find *Add N to X’s *remix of ‘Monster Trux’. This seems a perfect accompaniment to ‘Black Sabbath’, with a repetitive bass line building up suspense with some creepy experimental noises [and what seems like a lawnmower] in the background. Having not heard the original song I couldn’t tell you how different this is to the original but it does seem a bit short and disappointing as far as variation on the track.

These two tracks, however have got me intrigued so I may have to explore M&D a bit further.
