Alfie

A Word in Your Ear

Label: Twisted Nerve Release Date: 04/03/2002

gdobson by Gareth Dobson March 8th, 2002

Of the current Twisted Nerve incumbents, it is Alfie with their sweet, sweet melodies and ear for a nagging tune that seem most likely to delight. The format is not particularly unique (the CSN,Y four-way harmonies that the band have claimed for themselves point to a deep love of music past), but the songs are executed with aplomb.

The new single is somewhat more together than previous songs and points to a band who’ve got over any previous amateur moments. ‘A Word in your Ear’ sounds like it could have come from Michael Head’s 'Strands album, but without the druggy demeanour. In other places it reminds of peak-era Roses or any number of golden era psychedelic performers. And all the better for it.

Alfie’s forthcoming album of the same name promises great things.
