Doves

Pounding

Label: Heavenly Release Date: 22/07/2002

rluckett by Robert Luckett July 22nd, 2002

Of course The Last Broadcast was one the most stirring guitar albums released in eons. Of course 'There Goes The Fear' was a beautiful chart shagging monster of a single. But now we have 'Pounding'.

I could use words like euphoric, joyous, exhilarating, beautiful, affecting, stirring, heart-breaking, and tender to describe this song. But you've heard it all before.

This is simply a wonderful record to catch the moment. I could be glib and call it an anthem, but it's so much more than a simplistic tune that middle aged men sing along to in pubs. From Jimi Goodwin's anguished, yet triumphant vocals, to the incessant cacophony of the drums, and perhaps best of all the gliding chiming guitar of the last 45 seconds.

Forget everything else. This is the single of the year.
