Funeral for a Friend

4 Ways To Scream Your Name EP

Label: Mighty Atom Release Date: 21/04/2003

3699
schown by Stu Chown April 5th, 2003

And so post-hardcore-screamo-math-rock noiseniks Funeral For A Friend come stomping back into the public eye with their latest balls-out-rawk EP. And it's rather good. Yes, when the world was fearful that we may get lumped with a bunch of British teary-eyed emo-types, the Welsh quintet showed us their stuff on the stunning 'Between Order And Model' EP - and they've excelled themselves here again. What follows is one of the many recipes for _ "A Good Rock Record"_.

You'll need a generous helping of "fuck you" hardcore-isms ('This Year's Most Open Heartbreak'); an anthemic, riff-fuelled energetic number is also a prerequisite ('She Drove Me To Daytime TV'); a nice splatter of _almost-emo-with-slower-and-faster-bits ('Kiss And Makeup (All Bets Are Off)'_); and of course a plentiful amount of, well, more anthemic melody, the kind that makes you want to raise your blood-spattered fists in celebration ('Escape Artists Never Die'). Once ready, serve to any rock fan you care to choose, and VOILA! - you've got stadium filling quirk-rock.

Funeral For A Friend are the perfect blend of metal and melody, have a singing drummer that's actually rather good, and rock like bastards. Do you need anything else? Nay, I say, nay.
