It's not big and it's not clever. It's certainly not original in the slightest, and yet, that's what makes 'Soul Destroyer' so great.

When people say that a record is timeless because every time they play it a new sound jumps out at them, well a similar kind of scenario applies with this tune because every time 'Soul Destroyer' comes hurtling out the speakers I can hear Johnny Thunders cackling to himself, Pete Shelley sighing that the whole punk shenanigans weren't in vain after all, even Ginger Wildheart dismantling the chord structure to make it fit one of his own JD-soaked melodies.

In short then, 'Soul Destroyer' is what rock and roll should be, two-and-a-half minutes of foot-to-the-floor hedonism - sleaze without the cheese - and all the better for it.
