Be Your Own Pet

Damn Damn Leash

Label: XL Recordings Release Date: 14/03/2005

7978
mannot by Michaela Annot March 25th, 2005

You're from Nashville, you've been plugging away at your band for years, and then suddenly it all happens; no longer are you safely ensconced within your little geographical bosom, in a whirlwind second you're now the hottest band on the planet... and you're only _17_...

Yes indeed, Be Your Own PET** own a great band name, a fantastically full-on focal point to the band and a whole lot of hair and DIY kudos. They are the Yeah Yeah Stripes, and they are not the greatest new band in the world. But they are fucking good.

'Damn Damn Leash' is a whirling headspin of a crunch-rock indie disco anthem, with a chorus that spins "round and around and around and round".... and it's got enough fiery young blood and anger for all those record company people to s-s-s-s-uck them dry. Mmm. Vampirical. See above for a description of additional tracks 'spill' ("you're breaking my spinal cord") and 'Electric Shake' ("throw that fucker out the door").

A hit of rock n roll so essential, so now, we can only compare it to a Big Mac; a momentary decision of brief fulfillment ultimately disgraced by it's own fleeting beauty.
