We Start Fires

Hot Metal/Hipshake

Label: Marquis Cha Cha Release Date: 03/01/2005

12282
holliy by holliy January 9th, 2006

Were there any justice in the world, which of course there clearly bloody isn’t, We Start Fires would now be bigger than the Great Wall of China. They just make Such Good Noise: hollering, synth-blasting, guitar grinding, punky, tuneful, just-brimming-over-with-vitality songs of the kind which make jacking in the career path and living for the dance floor seem not merely a sensible but an indispensable life choice. Indisputably rocking, but with the casual touch of pop know-how which finds its way effortlessly into your dancing shoes. On top of that WSF dress to slaughter, sing like they mean it and generally know the value of putting on a technicolour, souls-on-sleeves show – surely a band the world should’ve fallen for by now?

But the world is, in many ways, a superficial place, and the cycle of trends has yet to swerve in WSF’s direction. So, dear reader, I commend ‘em into your hands. If you profess any kind of liking for kick-ass synth-laced punk-pop attitude, head over to westartfires.co.uk, click on through to the soundfiles and download one. Then decide for yourself that I am right. ‘Tis that easy.

What – are you still here? Get ye gone!
