Union Of Knives

Taste For Harmony

Label: Relentless Release Date: 21/08/2006

15376
therapyrock by Ben Yates August 15th, 2006

Co-existing with Cansei de Ser Sexy in the battle for success in the summer indie-disco, Union Of Knives' second single carries all the traits of a dance-floor hit. However, unlike Peter, Bjorn And John, Union Of Knives stray away from creating a perky summer tune in favour of a dirty electro-stomp, accompanied by drawn-out synth chords and vocals reminiscent of Radiohead. Make no mistake, though, Union Of Knives aren’t fatuous '80s revivalists – while The Bravery went on like New Order never formed, aficionados will be pleased when the dance-tinged ‘Taste For Harmony’ rolls out of their speakers, as it actually pursues a modern sound.

Union Of Knives’ songs work best when they couple catchy hooks with dark, industrial rhythms. And, like their electro counterparts The Faint, the songs work even better when pop music is thrown into the mix. Although not the best song on Union Of Knives’ debut album, ‘Taste For Harmony' incorporates all of the aforementioned features, thus making the band's strategy for success a promising one.

Forget the fact that Union Of Knives aren’t the most original act in town, and remember that this British act do electro-rock better than most of their musical associates.
