Fury Of The Headteachers

Farewell Comrade

Label: Grace Records Release Date: 18/09/2006

Mixing a love for broken glass, barbed wire and... err... Sonic Youth could be the stuff of wildest dreams or darkest nightmares, depending on one's nihilistic tendencies or even which side of the bed you arose from this morning. To Fury Of The Headteachers it's something that just comes naturally.

'Farewell Comrade' sounds like it was recorded on one of those 'can't be arsed days' between the climax of spring and the onset of summer when thoughts turn to warm sun, cold showers and even colder beers.

But then, just as slumping in a chair seems the most amenable option, a voice from the grave screams "X... is... for... EXECUTION!", like some hyperventilating, deranged town crier. From that point onwards, the song takes on a whole new meaning of skewered riffs, strangulated vocals and shambolic grace.

Slacker punk at its best then, or should that be laziest?
