Favourite Thing About Jane

Label: Songphonic Records Release Date: 30/04/2007

22956
NickyC by Nick Cowen May 2nd, 2007

As is the case with most pub-rock bands, Jyrojets don't seem to do subtle. 'Favourite Thing About Jane' opens with a single guitar line before the entire band crashes into the track with enough determination, big chord strums and cymbal crashes to level every local in Britain. At one point you can actually hear the chorus being belted out by what sounds like the packed stands at a football match, like some portend of how popular this three-and-a-half minute chisel to the cranium is going to be.

Those able to take time out from the sensation that the band is trying to scythe your frontal lobes apart will note the lyrics about birds, booze and coke are delivered in a full-throated bray by Colin Fraser - his register is pretty reminiscent of Kelly Jones and Liam Gallagher. Admittedly, the riff's very catchy and the song has an anthemic quality about it, but then, this was the case 30 years ago when Iggy Pop and The Stooges played it with considerably more aplomb in the form of 'The Passenger'.

After a few spins of this, you may feel like you have a full blown hangover.
