Last weekend's Bowlie 2 weekender at Butlin's in Minehead was quite fantastic. One of the undoubted highlights was Edwyn Collins' performance on Centre Stage on Saturday afternoon, with Teenage Fanclub as his backing band. A couple of other co-stars appeared too, including Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy of Franz Ferdinand. Again, it was brilliant.»
New album next year and a massive tour in May. »
City Slang's a pretty good label, right? Yes, it is and has released a fat lot of great records so far this year. This will continue into next year and hopefully with Wye Oak's new record, Civilian, which comes out on March 7 2011. It'll come out on all t»
Listen to this week's Spotifriday playlist, featuring a whole lot from our end of year content and more, including LCD Soundsystem, Shearwater, Gang Of Four, Deftones, Joy Division, Dirty Projectors and, of course, more. »
Earlier in the week we posted about an ongoing mystery about Los Campesinos!. We didn't know what Heat Rash was all about, but now we do, as they posted about it on their official website. It's good news!»
Legendary post-punkers Gang Of Four return next year with a brand new album. How about that folks? It's called Content and comes out through Gronland records on January 24, so not very long to wait. We've got the premiere of a 2-minute or so mini documentary, or trailer, of Andy Gill talking about the making of the artwork for the record, which you can watch here.»
The spirit of Christmas and all that. Yadda yadda yadda. Yes, there's a free thing. It's being given away. It's music. How kind etc. The band in question this time are Low who themselves are no strangers to Christmas! You can get your grubby festive hands on a free EP from the band, which is categorically a good thing (via Pitchfork).»
The lady has just announced a batch of UK tour dates (England and Scotland, naturally) kicking off at the end of February and concluding with a London show on March 1, which also happens to be St. David's day. Not sure if this is any consolation to the Welsh or not. »
Ah, Christmas. The time of year when Christmas singles get released. Bloody things. This year will, of course, be no different. The Futureheads are one of the earliest bands (of the lot we care at least a little bit about, anyway) to be releasing one of these. It's called 'Christmas Was Better In The 80s' and is released via their own Nul Records on December 19, some 6 days before the big day.»
We've been getting moderately excited about the new Gruff Rhys record, firstly because it's Gruff Rhys and we have high expectations from The Great Man and secondly because everything we've heard from it and heard about it has been unendingly positive. Wh»
Beady Eye is the name of the band which rose from the ashes of the split of Oasis. It includes all the previous Oasis members at the time of the split, minus Noel Gallagher and plus Chris Sharrock, who was sort of in the band anyway. Beady Eye have now confirmed the release of their debut record, which'll come out on February 28 2011. »
Los Campesinos! have had a good year, but we do want something a bit more from them soon, such is our patience. Clues indicate that something IS about to happen or indeed that it has already happened and is just waiting to be unleashed. They have been giving clues the last week or so...»
So, if you're not terminally fed up with all of the end of year lists and what not (hint: our list is here then there's more stuff for you to get your teeth into as, not-so-coincidentally, the end of the year also happens to be the time when we and you turn our eyes to what might be BIG, POPULAR and GENERALLY QUITE GREAT in 2011. I know, how very, very exciting.»
You don't need us to tell you what a fantastic record White Hinterland produced in Kairos. Easily one of the best records of the year. It made it to number 23 in our overall list and was a certain Luke Slater's #1 Album of the Year. Ahem. The duo, led by Casey Dienel release a new EP today, entitled Eidolon, which is released digitally via BandCamp.»
Three new demos. »
The return of Friday Fun! It is Friday, isn't it? Good. Well, this little treat has been floating around the internet and generally "doing the rounds" but we OBVIOUSLY had to wait until Friday to unleash it on, otherwise we wouldn't have anything to fill the irregular Friday Fun slot with, would we?!»
A couple of days ago Swedish indie-poppish troupe Those Dancing Days announced the release of their second record, which comes out on March 7 through the ever dependable Wichita Recordings. It's called Daydreams And Nightmares, and you can get a free song from it, as well as some other lovely photographic material of the band from their official website.»
As with the end of the year, it's often said that really good records don't come out at the beginning of a designated period of 12 months. This might be mostly true, but British Sea Power hope to prove an exception to the rule when they release their new one, Valhalla Dancehall, on January 10 through Rough Trade. I've heard it and it's most definitely NOT rubbish. Just how good it is, however, remains to be seen.»
This week's Spotify playlist, featuring music from artists who featured on the website this week, including Forest Swords, Pantha du Prince, Her Name Is Calla, Billy Bragg and LOADS more.»
Some dates in the not-too-distant future. By dates I mean shows. »

This is good news. »
Les Savy Fahhhhhhhv!»
A slight surprise this one, but all the more annoying for it. Last week we posted not one but two articles telling you about newly written and record Atlas Sound tracks, which were mostly constructed in Bradford Cox's bedroom - hence the name Bedroom Databank. »
Win tickets to a screening of a new Feist film.»
New DeVotchKa track, taken from new album!»
