Engineers have not toured the UK for a very long time. Five years in fact. That is all about to change, however, as they've just announced a handful of dates for late November and early December. All in England, of course. They release a new album soon and have now added the super-duper Ulrich Schnauss to their line-up, a noteworthy addition indeed.»

Abe Vigoda have a new album out now. It's called Crush and came out via Bella Union on Monday, September 20. Our review of that will be running soon, so keep an eye out for it. In the meantime, here's a video for the album's lead single - and free download - 'Crush'. Directed by Vice Cooler, by the way. Do you know that man?»

Organisational proceedings are gradually drawing to a close for the country and continent's festivals which take place in the month of October. Yesterday we have the final batch of bands being announced for Cardiff's SWN festival and today it's the turn of Manchester's In The City festival, which has some pretty stellar names joining its already fantastic line-up.»

Last year - or this year depending on a few factors - the supergroup made up of Xiu Xiu's Jamie Stewart, Zola Jesus and Freddy Ruppert - released their debut album Fleurs. It came out to a warm critical reception. They've now announced that they are to release their next album on November 8. It'll come out through Upset The Rhythm and is called New Love. »

You might remember Buddyhead for some of the finest pieces of music writing in the early '00s as well as some of the funniest wind-ups not just in the '00s but, well, of all time. There was, and still is, a record label associated with it all and that's how we perhaps belatedly discovered Dios, who were formerly Dios (Malos), for your information.»

The final set of bands and artists have been announced for the Huw Stephens co-curated SWN Festival, which takes place in Cardiff next month. Some of them are more well-known than others, but what it will mean is that there is once more a massively varied event over in Wales. Which is good.»

Los Angeles noisy-duo No Age release their new LP very soon indeed. It's called Everything In Between and comes out through that indie label of much repute, Sub Pop. You can also now stream it over at The Guardian. We did toy with stealing the code and posting it ourselves but that would have been against the spirit of internet exclusives, wouldn't it?»

M.I.A needs a bit of credit here - she certainly deserves it. Her new video for 'Story To Be Told' very much carries on the theme of ancient computer displays going fucking crazy. Although it doesn't quite have the artistic sophistication of that one where all the ginger kids were running away, only to be cruelly blown to pieces of rusty dust, it does something. I'm not sure I can describe what it is. »

Following on from the few November shows which were announced a little while ago, Jack Tatum and Wild Nothing have confirmed what we all hoped in a few more dates. It's all proper now, with a full-on European jaunt, as well as a seven-date UK leg, including a show at the NME Weekender at Camber Sands.»

There have been some astonishing things to come out of Norway, but perhaps none as astonishing as Serena-Maneesh bassist Hilma Nikolaisen, who tonight – and presumably at every show – appears to stand at about seven feet tall, at a conservative estimate, and slides around aimlessly and effortlessly from the front of the stage to the back, from one side to the other as though loosely attached to a set of infinite rails. I may have mentioned this before, but it is genuinely mesmerising. »

Multi-talented musical maestro Andrew Bird is to release another album this year. I say another and not "new" because it isn't strictly true - as it has already been released, as part of the deluxe edition of last year's album Noble Beast (via Pitchfork).»

Jack Tatum and Wild Nothing have undeniably released one of the records of the year - certainly one of the debuts of the year - in Gemini, which came out a couple of months ago. Its bleakness transposed against its hope is one major factor of the appeal, but above all the songs are pretty decent, too. So we don't really need much of an excuse to go posting about them again. Here we go.»
