New Zealand you say? Usually I'd run you out of town, but Jakob - a three-piece signed to the label owned by those cheeky garage upstarts The Datsuns - are actually pretty decent. The first effort on this two-tracker, 'Sephamore', is a strong, instrumental number in the vein of Mono and Oceansize. It's not as epic, granted, but if you're after small but perfectly formed examples of post-rock, this is spot on. B-side 'To Be Locked Up' lacks the dynamics of the title track, but rumbles along slowly and pleasantly enough. Well, I say pleasant: it's clearly the soundtrack to drowning yourself in cement. A recommended introduction.
