DiS Southampton #6 - Dive Dive, Young Knives & Dead! Dead! Dead! - 14/03/05
Andy by Andrew Farley March 6th, 2005
DiS Southampton is back and better than ever. Each month we aim to bring you the best in new music at the cheapest of prices and this time we have a bit of an Oxford-themed special for you. The now four-strong DiS Southampton team is proud to present Dive Dive and The Young Knives, with support from local heroes Dead! Dead! Dead! Here’s all you need to know:

Who’s playing? Dive Dive, The Young Knives & Dead! Dead! Dead!

Where? LENNON’S NIGHTCLUB, Onslow Road, Southampton. The night is in association with our friends at Long Live Rock And Roll.

When? Monday 14th March 2005

How much? £3.00. Drink prices from £1

How? Tickets are strictly limited on a first come, first served basis on the door.

How long? 9pm till 2am...

What's it all gonna sound like?

**Dive Dive**

With recent singles '555 For Film Stars' and ‘Good Show’, Dive Dive have finally started to make the kind of impact justified by a band of this calibre. Colin Weston recently described the band on this very site as being the best thing to come out of Oxford since Radiohead, high praise I think you’ll agree…

**The Young Knives**

The Young Knives are one of the bands on the Oxford scene. If you spend a lot of time in the Zodiac you’ll have undoubtedly caught their power-poptastic confidence-brimming live performances. With a single due soon on Transgressive Records (they just released the Mystery Jets and Subways singles), new management and critical praise coming in from every corner, it looks like 2005 may just be their year.

**Dead! Dead! Dead!**

Sounding like a the Mars Volta fused with Pulp, Joy Division and Nick Cave, Dead! Dead! Dead! are still a very new band, so it’s hard to believe they’ve already supported the Delays and Ash. Read Matt Buttler’s recent interview, or Kate Price’s live review if you want to know more. All three bands together will make for a special evening.

+Us on the decks!

All four of us Southampton DiS-types - myself, Kate Price (not that Kate Price, before you ask!), Thommo Blatchford and Matt Buttler will be spinning some of the finest tunes you’re ever likely to hear on a night out, right through till 2am. Don’t you find one of the most frustrating things about seeing a band is the immediate come down of leaving the venue? Aren’t some of the best gigs the ones where you stay and dance the night away? Anyways, you get the picture. Three top bands. Four top (ahem) DJ’s. Alcohol. Fun stuff. And the ability to say YOU were there. How could you not be?

If you have any questions, suggestions, or are in a band who’d like to take part in future Drowned in Sound events in Southampton you can email me (adfarley@lineone.net) or Kate Price (kate.price@drownedinsound.com).
