Beirut, aka Zach Condon (pictured), left fans infuriated last night after he played just a single song at Gateshead's Sage venue.
Condon - whose Gulag Orkestar album (reviewed here) is to be (re)released via 4AD very soon - was supporting the excellent Calexico and A Hawk And A Hacksaw. Fans were frustrated, though, when he left the stage after a single song reports Playlouder.com.
One attendee told the site: "Although Calexico were the headliners, a lot of people including myself were here to catch Beirut, and we got barely one song. It was all a bit of a shambles really and we didn't know whether they were going to come back on or not. The band didn't say anything, and we were just ushered out by the venue staff. I thought they had grace and style, well they ain't.
"I don't know why they couldn't have just cut Calexico's set by a couple of tunes instead, it's not as if we haven't heard them all before."
