Peñate likes bashment, big nails, short asses
TheBoyDeadly by TheBoyDeadly October 18th, 2007

His first has only just seen the light of day, but already Jack Peñate is talking up his next longplayer – and he wants things strictly “bashment”.

It sounds like the jaunty West London skiffler has become thoroughly enchanted with the Jamaican dancehall he’s been listening to recently.

He speaks to the NME: "[the songs]'re going to be different to the first album. Bashment. Seriously, I love those bashment beats. I want to take that further."

Quickly dissipating any possible whispering campaign – “genre tourist, fly-by-night!” – Jack’s picked a favourite.

"Lexxus is fucking sick,” he opined. “There's a song called 'Cook' and it's about how he doesn't like girls who are thin and have long nails, he likes big fat ladies with short nails who can stay home and cook for him.

"I feel the same but I like big nails and short asses."

Not really the same is it, Jack? In fact, almost the polar opposite. The only thing you seem to have in common is a love of women who cook.

See, I’d twist that if I was a proper hack.
