Sick Of It All

Yours Truly

Label: Fat Wreck Release Date: 20/11/2000

DiSvsMatt by Mat Hocking November 20th, 2000

"Don’t be a prick in the roses/ no-one’s impressed with your lack of respect/ we’re all black sheep & we know it/ so don’t f**k it up for the rest" [‘Hello Pricks]

This is just a typical line from SOIA’s sixth and possibly their best album to date. The ‘we’ refers to the ‘family’ of thousands of ardent hardcore fans around the world which follow this hard-edged & emotional sub-culture & the ‘prick’ referring to those who give it a bad name through violence, fascism or other acts of stupidity. Sick Of It All have always concentrated on hardcore issues such as these and the title ‘Yours Truly’ reflects the manufactured & celebrity status which they’ve always fought against.

After the somewhat disappointing ‘Call To Arms’ this is a real welcome return. Powerful songs like ‘Hands Tied Eyes Closed’ & ‘District’ sees their patented hardcore formula shine but other songs like ‘America’ & ‘Souvenir’ actually show a certain tunefulness creeping into Lou Koller’s holler. And the thing is it sounds so good you wonder why he didn’t introduce it years ago.

I can’t wait to see this played live!
